Faye’s Fierce Club Mix by DJ Dino Rivera
I First learned how to mix in 1982 after idolizing mobile DJ groups in the Daly City & San Francisco areas. I Joined my very first mobile group in 1985 but the real deal happened when I met Chris Miguel and together we became the 4-turntable duo of SPINTRONIX. SPINTRONIX competed in showcases & DJ battles hroughout the Bay Area during 1986-1999. We formed an alliance with another mobile DJ group called “Livestyle Productions” which was fronted by the now legendary worldwide champion DJ Q-Bert. Today, SPINRONIX is a legitimate business operating as an LLC specializing in Weddings, Corporate Events and School Dances.
In 1990, after submitting a mix tape for a contest on radio station KMEL, my mix was chosen as one of the mixes and was aired during the weekly “KMEL Power Mix Show”. I retired in 1990 and took a break for about 6 years. It was during this break that I discovered Euro-beat songs and ‘Manila Sounds’. I came out of retirement from DJ’ing in 1997 after being offered a chance to mix for CLUB MANILA with DJ Jake which originated in the L.A. area. I soon met DJ Steve Velasco and together we became the 2 DJs for Club Manila which lasted about 3 years. We also DJ’ed for another Promotion Group called “Xtreme Xposure”. Our last stint at these parties was called FUSION” which did a few bars in San Francisco. FUSION ended about 2001 and the whole scene slowly died out.
After a 6-year hiatus, Steve & I collaborated with DJ Gilby of Via Manila and DJ Alexson Lim of Spintronix to form the new RETRO MANILA which has currently revived the scene. DJ’ing is so much a part of my life that my wife & I named our son Cameron Paul Rivera (after the famous DJ Cameron Paul, my idol).
This mix is dedicated to my wife Faye who has been patient with all my mixing. This is actually her in the intro.
